Young doctors' strike continued across Punjab for the twelfth day today. The provincial government has issued directives to IG Punjab abd Secretary Health to get tough with the young doctors staging the strike.
Punjab government will start implementing its plan to bring the strike to an end within days.
Meanwhile the young doctors' continue their strike tearing all government measures and directives to pieces.
At Mayo Hospital Lahore the striking young doctors rejecting any and every action resorted to by the government and warned it of strong reaction.
Not only young doctors but senior doctors are hard to find at government hospitals across Punjab.
Four hundred and fifty-eight new doctors are being recruited through Public Service Commission and 500 more are expected to be recruited but the mater seems to get worsened by each passing day.
Meanwhile, the refusal of young doctors to serve in the hospitals and subsequent launch of strike has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.
The petitioner, Advocate Azhar Siddiq, bears the stance that the strike launched by young doctors is against the spirit of fundamental rights and also negates the sanctity of medical profession.
The petitioner requested the court to cancel the licenses of young doctors who are on strike.
If a patient dies due to the strike of young doctors, they should be accused for the death and stern action must be taken against them, the petition says.
According to the petition, it should be investigated whether degrees of the young doctors have been acquired from an accredited educational institution or not.
Meanwhile, the government of Punjab has issued notification according to which each absentee doctor will be sentenced to one-year imprisonment.
According to the notification, medical service will now fall under institutions of people’s services and action will be taken against the violators according to the services’ rules.
