Punjab unveils tax free budget for 2012-13

 The Punjab Government on Saturday presented budget for fiscal year 2012-13 with a total outlay of Rs782.8 billion.

No new tax has been proposed in the next budget while the government has decided to deduct salaries of members of the provincial assembly by five percent.

The budget speech was delivered by Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, who possess additional portfolio of finance minister, in a very good environment. The budget session of the Punjab Assembly presided over by Speaker Rana Muhamamd Iqbal.

Earlier, the Punjab cabinet approved Rs 780 billion budget for fiscal 2012-13, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif chaired the meeting at his camp office.

The amount allocated for development projects will be Rs 246 billion.

The amount fixed for social development is Rs 85 billion while education and health sectors will get Rs 30 billion and Rs 18 billion respectively.

Other allocations include Rs 67 billion for infrastructure, Rs 10 billion for production, Rs 70 billion for police and Rs 9 billion for service sector.

About Rs 20 billion have also been earmarked for subsidies on various sectors.

For women development Rs 13 billion will be spent and Rs 0.35 billion for minorities while Rs 4 billion allocated for Ramadan bazaars.

The cabinet also approved continuation of schemes like Ashiana, yellow cab and laptop during the financial year 2012-13.

Easy loan schemes for women and small farmers have also been proposed in the tax free Punjab budget 2012-13.

Punjab’s revenue for the year 2012-13 has been estimated at Rs640 billion, while the province would be receiving Rs710 billion from the federation under NFC award.

Some One billion rupees embarked for Balochistan Schools of Cardiology.

Rupees worth two billion allocated for green tractor scheme while Rs 50 million for extra-curricular activities. The government also okayed Rs50 millions for Enovation project.
