Provincial Minister Mujtaba Shuja will present the fifth and last budget of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government in the Punjab Assembly (PA) at 4:00 pm today.
The budget’s amount is around Rs 770 billion, which is Rs 127 billion more than the last year.
The Punjab government changed its finance minister a day before the budget session scheduled for Saturday and gave the extra charge of Finance Ministry to Mujtaba Shuja, after the opposition's hue and cry over former finance minister Rana Asif Mahmood’s dual nationality.
According to sources, the PML-N government has allocated Rs 230 billion for the Annual Development Budget. The salaries of government employees would be upped by 20 percent, as had been announced in the federal budget.
No new tax would be imposed in the budget and the government is going to allocate around Rs 85 billion for social development, Rs 9 billion for service sector, Rs 30 billion for education, and Rs 18 billion for the health sector, respectively.
The budget would allocate Rs 70 billion for police, Rs 67 billion for infrastructure and Rs 10 billion for production, adding that Rs 13 billion would be set aside for women development and Rs 0.35 billion for minorities. Easy loan schemes for women and small farmers have also been proposed in the budget, sources said.
The sources said that the government has allocated around Rs 20 billion for subsidies on different sectors as well as Rs 4 billion for Ramzan Bazaars. Meanwhile, the Ashiana Housing Scheme, Yellow Cabs and Laptop Schemes would continue and different amounts have been allocated for them in the budget, the sources said.
Mujtaba Shuja is set to announce the budget in PA at 4:00 pm today.
