Gilani is still prime minister, says Naek

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Farooq H Naek has said that the Supreme Court's verdict against Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani was dependent upon the rolling of Speaker National Assembly.

He added that if the speaker did not reack on any decision within 30 days then Election Commission of Pakistan's role begins. He said that Gilani was prime minister of Pakistan according to law and the Constitution.

The minister went on to say that government would complete its five year tenure, added that, general elections would be held on time.

Talking to media outside the Parliament House on Thursday, Naek said that Speaker National Assembly was the concerned person in the issue and the issue was under observation. The speaker would decide whether the issue should be forwarded to ECP or not.

Naek said that Gilani was still member of the Parliament and prime minister of Pakistan, and opponents should wait of PM Gilani's appeal, and decisions of the speaker and ECP.

He said that Pakistan Peoiples' Party rendered sacrifices to restore democracy in Pakistan. Issues should be resolved through reconciliation, added that, country's survival was in democracy, he stated.

The minister said that the government has completed its four years and would complete its five-year constitutional tenure.
