Ex minister Iqbal Haider passes away

Former law minister and and co-chairman of Human Right Commission of Pakistan Barrister Iqbal Haider died of lung disease on Sunday morning.

Iqbal, who beleived on democratic institution, was born on January 14, 1945. He completed his graduation from Government College of Commerce and Economics, and got LLB Degree from Punjab University Law College in 1966.

He was a professional lawyer and during his college life he remained vice president of college union.

Haider was counted among close aides of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. He also served as president of Pakistan People's Party Karachi Division. He fought against dictatorship and was kept in prison between 1981 to 1986.

He faced difficulties during MRD. He was one of the founding fathers of MRD.

Haider became senator in 1991, and PPP made him law minister on his services for democracy. He also served as attorney general of Pakistan.

He parted his ways from PPP in 2005 and starting providing services i Human Rights Commission.

Haider funeral prayer would be offered at Imam Bargah Yasrab near his Defence residence on Monday.  He will be laid to rest in his hometown on Hub River Road.
