Supreme Court Pakistan continues hearing the case about the law and order situation
in Balochistan and has appointed five senior lawyers amicus curie in the case.
The five senior law experts appointed by the court are Yaseen Azad, Rasheed A Razvi, Muneer Malik, Akhtar Hussain and Salman Raja.
The case is heard by a a three-member bench of the SC headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary.
When Attorney General appeared before the court at the beginning of the hearing of the case earlier today the CJ objecting that the court had not called him and asked him to read out the order of the court.
On this the AG said that Secretary Defence has called him regrading this case and if the court feels he should not come he would not come.
Hot words were exchanged between him and the court forcing Justice Arif Khilji Hussain to say that the court is being forced to take the ultimate step.
Interior Secretary K. M. Siddiq Akbar too arrived at the Supreme Court after the bench hearing a petition on the law and order situation and human rights violations in Balochistan warned that action would be taken against him in case he failed to appear before it.
The court is hearing the petition filed by the Balochistan Bar Association on the law and order situation in Pakistan’s largest province.
The chief justice remarked that the court had been knocking on every door to resolve the Balochistan issue, adding that, it had no choice but to reveal the contradiction between the Constitution and the approach of the government.
Prior to the interior secretary’s arrival, the bench said that Akbar must appear before the court in 30 minutes’ time, adding that, if he failed to appear then the court would get him suspended.
