An important meeting of Defence Committee of the Cabinet has been summoned tomorrow to discuss Nato supply issues.
The civil and military leadership of Pakistan and the United States are in contact regarding reopening of Nato supply route. It is expected that positive progress could be announced soon.
The US officials have speed up efforts to restore Nato supply route.
Isaf commander and US civil leadership held meetings Pakistan's civil and military leadership to discuss the issue.
Foreign Office Spokesman Moazzam Ahmed Khan said that Pakistan raised issues of Nato supply restoration, attack on Salala check-post and US apology with the US. He said that there have been significant progress but Pakistan has not taken final decision to reopen Nato supply.
During the meeting which held on Sunday Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khan and Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh represented Pakistan, whereas Isaf commander General John Allen, US deputy Secretary of State Thomas Nides and US Ambassador in Islamabad Cameron Munter were included in American delegation.
After the meeting, Khar and Sheikh met Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and briefed him about the meeting.
Meanwhile, Nato Secretary General Andres Fogh Rasmussen said that it was necessary for both Nato and Pakistan to cooperate each other.
Rasmussen hoped that Pakistan would soon reopen the Nato supply route.
Efforts to reopen the supply route which was shut following the November 26, 2011 attack on the Salala check post have intensified. Isaf Commander General John Allen arrived in Pakistan on Sunday to hold talks with military and civilian leadership over the reopening of the supply route.
On Afghanistan, Rasmussen said that Nato intended to hand over security responsibilities to Afghan forces by 2012 adding that the international community should come forward and help in the country’s development and elimination of corruption.
