Pakistan Railways train schedule was hard hit by the scarce supplies of fuel; the situation however expected to improve after arrival of a diesel supply train from Karachi to Lahore today.
The railways facing worst fuel crisis as the authorities had directed all railway divisions to arrange diesel from open market for the down-country trains. After reports about seven rupees per litre hike in diesel prices, the fuel has become unavailable in the market and several trains including Awam Express, Ghouri, Farid Express and Khyber Mail were parked at the engine shed due to lack of fuel.
Moreover, Jaffar and Quetta Express from Quetta and Karachi Express, Awam, Allama Iqbal Express and Tezgam from Karachi were several hours late and the local trains have been halted due to the fuel crisis.
According to railway sources, the fuel situation was expected to improve after arrival of a supply train, which was about to reach Lahore today after carrying diesel from Karachi.
