Two love stories of very diverse genre are competing at box office this weekend, but going by the audience response, Ishaqzaade has trumped Dangerous Ishhq.

Introducing the newcomer Arjun Kapoor opposite Parineeti Chopra, Ishaqzaade is reported to have got the fifth best opening at the box office this year with a collection around Rs. 5.2 crore according to early estimates. The reviews by critics have been mixed, but the audience response is mostly positive, with almost everyone praising Parineeti’s performance, with a nod of approval for Arjun Kapoor as well.

The best response to Ishaqzaade was in Mumbai where the film is said to have raked in between Rs 1.5 crore to 1.75 crore on Friday. The collections in Delhi fell a little short of Rs. 1 crore though.

The film is reportedly made on a budget of Rs. 25 crore. It released on about 2000 screens across India this Friday.

In contrast, the response to Dangerous Ishhq, touted as Karisma Kapoor’s comeback vehicle was lukewarm. Its first-day collection ranged between Rs 1 crore to 1.1 crore. The film saw an occupancy of 10 percent to 20 percent at theatres, which is way below the mark. The critics, too, have given their thumbs down to the Vikram Bhatt-directed 3D film.

The next week would see the release of three films: Department, Mr. Bhatti On Chutti and Love Lies & Seeta. Department is expected to fetch the best opening among the three
