Updated 5 hours ago

LAHORE: Lahore High Court on Monday adjourned till May 11, 2012 hearing of petition, seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani when Deputy Attorney General submitted that detailed judgment of Supreme Court in Premier's conviction in contempt proceedings in NRO non-implementation case was still awaited.
The bench headed by LHC Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed directed DAG Abdul Hai Gilani to place on record copy of apex court's detailed judgment upon pronouncement in LHC.
Advocate Allah Bakhsh Gondal filed petition, seeking PM's disqualification in public interest. His counsel AK Dogar contended that PM Gilani ceased to hold office by automatic operation of provisions of Articles 5, 6 & 92(2) of the Constitution. He said federal government had not complied with directions of apex court to write letter to Swiss authorities on $60 million in Swiss banks.
He submitted Supreme Court passed short order sentencing PM Gilani in contempt proceedings and detailed judgment was awaited. He contended there was no need to send a reference to Speaker National Assembly as Mr Gilani was disqualified following his conviction by apex court. (PPI)
