England batsmen tormented the Indian bowlers after captain Alastair Cook elected to bat in the first ODI at Rajkot on Friday to post a total of 325 for four in 50 overs.
Openers Cook (75) and Ian Bell (85) put on a 158-run stand for the first wicket as the Indian bowlers struggled on a flat wicket.
MS Dhoni threw the ball to his part-timers Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina who dried up the runs in the middle over and even brought about the first breakthrough when Bell was run out in the 28th over.
Four overs later, Raina dismissed Cook, who gave a simple catch to Ajinkya Rahane at short fine leg to bring an end to a fine innings of 75.
Eoin Morgan (41) and Kevin Pietersen (44) got a move on as they scored at a good rate to get England back on track for a big total. They scored 44 runs in five overs and were nearing their half-centuries when Ashok Dinda struck twice in a span of three overs to send them back to the pavilion leaving England at 255 for four in the 44th over.
Craig Kieswetter() and Samit Patel() put on an unbeaten stand of 62 runs in the last 35 deliveries as England went past the 300-mark.
