Sri Lanka beat Pak by 16 runs; sails into final

Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by 16 runs in the first semi final and sailed into the final of the World Twenty20 Cup at R Premadas Stadium in Colombo Thursday night.

Chasing the winning taget of 140 runs Pakistan managed to score 123 runs in the twenty allocate overs at the loss of seven wickets.

From the beginning of its 140-run-target inning Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Pakistan lost Imran Nazir at 31 runs; Nasir Jamshed at 55 runs; Kmaran Akmal at 57 runs; Shaoib Malik at 64 runs; skipper-opener Mohammad Hafeez at 91 runs; Shahid Afridi at 91 runs and Sohail Tanvir at 113 runs.

Mohammad Hafeez the top scorer for Pakistan with 42 runs including 4 fours and a six off 63 balls followed by 29 runs including 3 fours off 44 balls by unbeaten Umar Akmal.

Imran Nazir scored 20 runs off 26 balls including 3 fours. Nasir Jamshed, Kamran Akmal, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Sohail Tanvir and Umar Gul (not out) scored 4, 1, 6, o and 2 runs respectively.

Sri Lanka would play the final on Sunday against West Indies or Australia depending on which one of them win the second semi final tomorrow (Friday).

Angelo Mathews and Ajantha Mendis bagged two wickets each while Rangana Herath sent three Pakistani players back to the pavilion.
