A fierce batting by Marlon Samuels saved West Indies from looming disaster and helped it give a somewhat respectable 138-run target to Sri Lanka to lift the World Twenty20 Cup trophy.
West Indies lost opner Johnson Charles without scoring any run and lost Chris Gayle at collective score of 14 runs.
Windies lost its third wicketDwayne bRAVO AT 73 Runs; Kieron Pollard 14 runs later; Andre Russel at the same 87 runs and finally the only of its batsman that stood up against Sri Lanka with his head high, Samuels at 108 runs.
Samuels scored 78 runs including 6 sixes and 3 fours off 56 balls.
Darren Sammy was the second top Windies acorer at 26 runs including 3 fours off 15 balls.
Sri Lanka's Ajantha Mendis took 4 wickets in 4 overs in which he gave just 12 runs. Mathews and Dananjaya took one wicket each.
West Indies scored 137 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in the allocated 20 overs.
Sri Lanka started off confidently and is playing at 6 runs at the loss of one wicket, Dilshan, in 1.2 overs. Dilshan was bowled by Rampaul.
